To ensure the bags are sterile, a Parametric Release Process is used to confirm that all processing parameters are met and maintained throughout the sterilization cycle. The bags are shipped free from human contact in a secure liner bag inside the sealed carton. Lot numbers on every carton provide traceability of official sterility documentation, which is available. • Whirl-Pak® bags are not autoclavable.

1. THIO BAGS are specially designed for sampling chlorinated water, the Whirl-Pak® Thio-Bag® is economical and convenient to use and is available in a Stand-Up version as well. This single use, sterilized, lightweight, unbreakable container is always ready for immediate use. It will save… Technician Time, Replacing Sample Containers, Storage Space & Disposal Costs. The Whirl-Pak® Stand-Up version has a special gusset on the bottom of the bag that flattens out when water is put in the bag, allowing it to stand up completely by itself. No rack or other holder is needed to keep the bag upright. Forget washing and sterilizing glass bottles and disposing of expensive vials. Used by many states and EPA approved, these strong transparent bags hold a nontoxic, nonnutritive tablet containing 10 mg of active sodium thiosulfate to neutralize chlorine at the time of collection. As an added feature, Thio-Bags® have a convenient Write-On Strip and markings for 100 ml and 300 ml measurements. These markings help the technician collect the correct amount of water as required by the testing procedure (fill lines are approximate). The write-on strip will accept virtually any writing instrument and minimizes ink smearing on the surface. A box of 100 bags takes up considerably less space than a box of 100 sample bottles. The 4-oz. (100 ml) size bags are packaged 25 in a sealed bag, four bags per box, for easy use.
2. COLI-TEST BAGS – If water samples are being tested with color-changing reagents, this bag can be used in place of the expensive bottle currently used. The bag is made of a special barrier film suitable for use with enzyme-based methods that result in a chromogen and/or a fluorogen release when total coliform and E. coli are present. The special film prevents color change from permeating through the bag, contaminating another sample and creating a false positive, and making contact with a person’s skin if they are not wearing gloves. It is sterile, contains 10 mg of active sodium thiosulfate to neutralize chlorine, has 4 oz. and 100 ml fill lines, and is completely self-standing – no rack or holder is needed to keep the bag upright. If the sample is not chlorinated, this bag can still be used; the sodium thiosulfate will not affect the sample, it is nontoxic and nonnutritive, and only neutralizes chlorine if present. A free color comparator is included in every box. The Coli-Test bag has been accepted by the EPA and is listed in the EPA Manual for the Certification of Laboratories Analyzing Drinking Water Section 5.3.1.4, 5th edition, January 2005. The Coli-Test bag will save money three ways: less expensive than the bottle, lower freight charges, and reduced disposal costs. A box containing 100 bags measures 9″ x 7″ x 2″ (23 x 18 x 5 cm), weighs 1 lb. (0.40 kg), compared to a box of bottles which has considerable more volume and weight.
3. CLEAR BAGS – Do not contain Thiosulfate or have a Marking spot or fill line.
4. WRITE-ON BAGS – The white, write-on strip makes sample identification easier and more convenient. It’s easy to write on this white strip using an ordinary ballpoint pen, pencil, or felt-tip marker. The paper-like finish virtually eliminates ink smearing, and provides a surface that will accept a variety of writing instruments. To assist in volume control, this bag has a 4-oz. and a 100 ml fill line. Fill lines are approximate. Do not contain Thiosulfate.

WRITE-ON STAND UP BAG makes sample handling and testing much easier because it gives users the ability to perform important laboratory functions with both hands, because the bag will stand completely by itself. No rack or other holder is needed to keep the bag upright. When the sample is placed inside, the special gusseted bottom flattens out, allowing the bag to stand up on its own. It works just like a beaker or bottle, however, it costs less, is sterilized, won’t break, and uses only a fraction of storage space as the other containers.
