Water has always been an important and life-sustaining drink to humans and other organisms (Alison, 2001). Water quality is one dimension of the human right to safe water which was reconfirmed in 2010 by the United Nations.A clean and safe environment is a prerequisite for health and quality of life. AQL contributes to this by providing market-leading laboratory testing and consulting services to a wide range of individuals, home owners, industrial companies, environmental consultants, contractors, borehole drilling companies and water bottling companies.

With a constant focus on regulatory compliancehere in Kenya as well as the International requirements and to meet the customer’s request, our laboratory performs analysis of drinking water, groundwater, seawater, using state-of-the-art analytical methods to assess their quality and impact on health and the environment at large.

According to (Rosenstock, 2003) environmental pollution has become a part of our everyday life and that the significance of our environmental factors to the health and well-being of human pollution is increasingly apparent

Clean, safe and adequate fresh water is vital to the survival of all living organisms and the smooth functioning of ecosystems communities and economies. Declining water quality has become a global issue of concern as human population grows, industrial and agricultural activities expand. Water quality issues are complex and diverse, and deserve urgent national and global attention and action, (UN, 2011). It is vital therefore that the quality of groundwater is protected if public health is not to be compromised (WHO, 2006).

Water testing is a broad description for various procedures used to analyze water quality. Water quality tests are carried out daily to fulfill regulatory requirements and to maintain safety, (Global Water Intelligence, 2013)

Aqualytic Laboratories Limited (AQL) has been doing potable water and effluent testing services since 2013. The Laboratory performs analyses on selected chemical constituents of water using state-of– the-art analytical equipment.

Water quality refers to the chemical, physical, biological, and radiological characteristics of water (Diersing, Nancy 2009). It is a measure of the condition of water relative to the requirements of one or more biotic species and or to any human need or purpose. (Johnson et al, 1997).

The Laboratory has in place a continuous training program to ensure that staffs are kept up to date on any method changes, Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs) changes, Instrument additions and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
